The Lab

Our mission

The Delta Biodiversity Research and Conservation Lab is a dynamic research initiative rooted in the heart of Bangladesh, a country renowned for its rich and diverse ecosystems. Our mission is to understand, protect, and promote the unique biodiversity of the region while addressing pressing conservation challenges. We envision a world where biodiversity thrives in harmony with human development. By combining cutting-edge research, community collaboration, and innovative conservation strategies, we aim to safeguard ecosystems for current and future generations.
Primates, as keystone species, play a pivotal role in maintaining the ecological balance of forests. Our primary research delves into the behavioural ecology, habitat use, and conservation needs of primates, with particular attention to the endangered Bengal slow loris, Phayre’s leaf monkey and other species native to Bangladesh. Through long-term studies and collaborations, we strive to protect these vital species and their habitats.
While primates are at the core of our work, the lab also champions the study of other important groups of wildlife. Our research encompasses birds, amphibians, reptiles, butterflies, and other taxa, aiming to understand the intricate web of life in Bangladesh’s ecosystems. From unravelling the secrets of migration patterns in birds to assessing the health of amphibian populations as indicators of environmental change, our goal is a comprehensive understanding of biodiversity.
Our approach involves conducting extensive field studies in diverse ecosystems, from lush tropical forests to mangrove swamps, to gather data critical for conservation. We engage with local communities, empowering them through education, capacity building, and sustainable practices to ensure long-term conservation success. By employing modern tools like GIS mapping, remote sensing, and advanced statistical modelling, we aim to refine and inform effective conservation strategies.
Bangladesh’s biodiversity is under threat from habitat destruction, climate change, and human activities. Delta Biodiversity Research and Conservation Lab was born out of the urgent need to bridge the gap between scientific research and on-ground action. We believe in transforming research findings into impactful conservation efforts, and driving change through collaboration with stakeholders, policymakers, and local communities.
Whether you’re a scientist, conservation enthusiast, or simply a lover of nature, we welcome you to be a part of our journey. Together, we can protect the incredible natural heritage of Bangladesh and inspire a global movement for biodiversity conservation.

1.

Conduct cutting-edge research on the ecology, behaviour, and conservation of primates and other wildlife to generate valuable knowledge for understanding and protecting ecosystems in Bangladesh and beyond.

2.

Develop and implement innovative conservation strategies to protect and restore habitats, ensuring the long-term survival of key species and the health of ecosystems in the face of climate change and human activities.

3.

Foster collaboration with local communities by providing education, capacity building, and sustainable livelihood opportunities to promote biodiversity-friendly practices and shared stewardship of natural resources.

4.

Utilize advanced tools such as GIS mapping, remote sensing, and ecological modelling to enhance research accuracy and efficiency, driving data-informed decision-making for conservation planning.
